Default 500 ho atp not shifting!

ok, so my500 H.O. ATP will not shift or will only shift with alot of force when i have been riding it for a while. it will also move when idling but if i hold the break on it will stop running. i have check the fluid level and it looks ok and shifter does move but only a 1/4 in to 1/2 in at the most. any ideas or tips would be great.

Welcome to the forum! Most of the time it's belt wear that causes the belt to ride off center of the front clutch one way bearing and touch either the inside or outside of the clutch sheath. This puts a constant strain on the rear clutch causing creeping, making shifting hard to do or can't shift until the engine is off. Plus clutches could be need to be aligned by adding or removing shims from behind the rear clutch. Wear on the front clutch one way washers(fiber at the back of the one way and metal in front) or the one way bearing itself can cause problems also. Pull the clutch cover and in neutral see if the front part of the belt is centered or touching the side of the front clutch while idling. Usually I had to shim clutches and replace the belt if hour glassed or glazed and usually solved the problem. Plus if you have an open area best to blow all the belt dust from the clutches. Look here under your model on Drive and Driven clutches to help with the details on parts involved.Browse OPT

If you have the tools and feel comfortable working on it,it's not that hard, but if the front clutch needs service you need a clutch puller and spider tool to service/replace the clutch buttons, one way bearing, and washers. The spider tool is about $90 at SPX,but may be some on Ebay? The puller is about $30,but some posters have gotten bolts at hardware stores that will threads into the clutch to pull it off. Just depends if you have the time, inclination, tools, etc. OPT
