Default Gas gauge not working properly

I am having issues with my gas gauge. It reads full all the time.
It would be nice if it was but its getting to be a pain in the back side.
How do these gauges work?

Is it another sensor issue. I do not yet have a manual for it.
Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
Thanks

If you have carb model you have a float level system similar to what's in a regular toilet float arm and float.Quite possible the float arm probably needs to be bent a little to keep the float from touching the tank causing it to stick which could show incorrect fuel level.Just pull it carefully out of the tank ,move the arm up and down slowly to make sure the display changes and bend the end just a tad and see if it helps.. If you have an efi system the float is built internally with the fuel pump, pressure regulator, etc. They can stick also, but move straight up and down on the column. OPT
