Default Gear selector linkage pops off gear shifter

Hey guys,
I just bought a 2008 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO EFI and changed all the fluids and when I was adding the demand drive fluid I jacked up the front to get a better angle and saw something fall of the back rack and still don't know what it was on the back rack. When I finished, I lowered it and looked at the right side of the ATV and the gear shifter was laying straight down and the linkage popped off. I must say that I am very new to ATVs but does anyone have any idea if I am missing something? I reconnected the linkage to the gear shifter and it drove fine and when I pulled it back in the driveway the gear shift fell straight down and disconnected again. Any ideas? Thanks
-Adam

Welcome! Think you might be talking about the plastic snap on linkage holders. If so they were an after thought in my opinion because they can break and the linkage arm can drop. Look here under your model "drive train, gear selector" Browse Hope this is what your talking about. Has a pretty good break down on the parts. OPT
