So I have removed to bracket underneath the strut and I think that the thin metal shims are supposed to hold the ball joint in. The metal shims are in really bad shape. The thing is I cant seem to find them on the break down. here is a link.

A-ARM/STRUT MOUNTING - A04CA32AA/AB/FA Polaris Trail Boss 330 (A04CA32AA/AB/FA) 2004 OEM Parts - Cheap Cycle Parts

I wonder if i buy number 15, will that be what i need?

This is just the ball joint plate. The ball joint assy(#20) is pressed into the strut. The ball joint itself is probably what you need unless the plate is damaged too. This is a common problem on ball joints pulling out of their sockets when worn. You remove the plate and if the inner part pulls out you need to heat the strut area up and grab hold of the remaining joint and pull or knock out. The new ball joint just drives back in,then you replace the plate(#15) OPT
