Do I need to break in a new cam?

yes id say so. run it like you're breaking in a brand new engine. go slow, fast etc, just dont keep it full throttle for long periods

I've heard so many different break in methods I couldn't say for sure.
Ride it like you stole it.
Run it hard for 20 minutes, let it cool down, then do it again.
No high rpms for the first few hours.

Did you just slide a new cam in, or did you replace more parts than that?
I think breaking in a cam only would be a lot different than breaking in an entirely new motor.

i didn't get the cam yet, it should be here in a few days. i just want to know what to do when i get it in. i also got new rocker arms and the works. When i put the cam in i set the valve clearances, but after a few hours of breaking it in, do i need to set the valve clearances again or should it be ok?
