2012 700 grizzly EPS and engine noise
#1
I ahve in my shop a grizzly with a very wierd circumstance. Looking for some help if anyone has seen this. I'm not new to ATV repair, just haven't dealt with a lot of yamaha's since there is no dealer close.
The motor runs perfect, no operational problems at all with anything on the machine.
It was brought in for a noise(which sounded like a bearing issue) that would make noise when the motor is shut off. Sounded like something free wheeling with a bad bearing. Sounded like inside clutch area. Removed clutches-no change. Pulled the one way clutch cover and removed the one way clutch and reassembled without it in. Noise still there.
After a while the noise showed up while idling and sounded to be in the left hand side(stator area). Once again, rev the motor and it disappears.
Here's the strange part.
Turn the bars to full stop and noise disappears totaly until you let off the bars. During handlebar travel noise was gone as well, until you quit moving the bars, or hit full stop.
Full steer also makes the noise at engine shut off disappear(gonna check that again in the morning when motor is cold.) I think the shut off noise was the cold engine(revved higher and wet clutch engaged and freewheeling nosie may have been the one way clutch, the clutch shaft was hard to stop when cooler, and easy when it warmed up, by the time I removed it and ran it, the motor was warmer)
Unit had a bad stator and was replaced 3.5 months ago.
Anybody ever run across anything like this before?

I knew it would be something off the wall. Bolts holdiong the stator had backed out a tiny bit allowing the stator to move slightly. They even had locktite on them. Strange. anyway, found it in case anyone has this later.

He brought it in saying it would charge. Don't know whether it was his fault or not. Not positive of his operation.
My curiosity is wondering why the lock tite didnt hold. Oh well. he's good to go now.
