hi everyone im new to quads ,i have a 110cc loncin quad and my problem is it wont idle ,when i start it up i have to keep the revs up or it will die ,even when the engine is warm it still cuts out ,i tried adjusting the idle screw but its not doing anything ,it will stay ticking over if i leave the choke on ,and when its warm it will start with no choke but it will cut out if i dont keep the revs up ,any ideas?

 

Sounds like a clogged idle circuit in the carburetor or miss adjusted idle setting.
If you have tried to adjust the idle screw and there is no change I would say it is clogged. I have cleared the idle circuit by taking out the idle screw and applying compressed air to the port.

 

ok ilk try that thanks ,but how come when i have choke on it doesn't cut out but the minute i turn the choke off it will die unless i keep the revs up?

 

I agree with what ghcoe suggested.
It sounds to me that your carburetor is not properly adjusted and probably in need of cleaning. There should be three brass screws on the one side of the carb. The lowest screw should be the bowl drain, the screw in the middle should be air/fuel ratio adjustment, and the uppermost screw should be your idle adjustment. I assume you know how to adjust a carburetor so I will not go into detail here.

You should also disassemble the carb and make certain you can see through the jet holes. I advise you to give a good dose of carb cleaner and make it shiny and squeaky clean (also check the condition of needle)

 

The choke restricts the air flow in the intake which creates more vacuum in the intake. This will enrichen the air fuel mixture by sucking more fuel out of the carburetor bowl. It may help with the idle, but you will be running too rich off idle when at operating temp.

 

Im not sure what style carb that uses but if its a vacume operated carb there will be an idle air/fuel mixture screw near the out-take of the carb itself, try leaning it out.
