A local dealer has a used 97 SP for $4495. Have there been alot of problems with the older SP's?, anyone have experience with this year??

I'm not very mechanically inclined, wondering if there will be alot of problems with an older model...

Thanks, Mark

I also found a 2000 SP500 (700 miles) for $5000 locally (with winch) and they have a 2000 SP400 for $5200, winch is additional $69. (The dealer with the 97 for $4495 will come down on price a couple of hundred probably, or throw in extras...)

If anyone can give me comparisons, thoughts on these I'd appreciate it.

Mark (former DaBoss ... I can figure out why it won't let me in)

i see that to allot of 2000's for 5-5500 if you can swing the extra cash I would go for the newest you can. to answer your question I am not sure about how the 97's held up? According to Kelly blue book a 1997 Sportsman is worth 4295.

That price is too high for a ’97 SP unless it hasn’t been ridden. Generally speaking, your biggest areas of concern on that model will be the four rear axle shaft u-joints and the poorly designed rear brake setup. The u-joints were prone to failure and the floating brake disc would often jingle like a bell while riding. Both of these problems have been addressed and eliminated on newer SPs.
