Default Symtec handwarmer controller issue...

I see a number of you guys have the Symtec hand warmers and was curious if any of you had any issues with the controller going on the fritz?
The warmers still work but none of the leds light up to indicate hand/thumb or power level. However if I press the select button the 3rd,5 and HANDS LED light up but I still cant make any adjustments..
The man who installed these for me wired them to what I believe is the Aux wire off the key (red/black wire)
Technical support wasn't aware of anything like this, but suggested running them straight to the battery and see if that changes anything. But he said that if doesn't change to call back and they will warranty it,so that's cool.
I dont have any wire lying around so that'll be a tmw project. If nothing else re-wiring will allow me to put in a on/off switch so I dont have to take the "hood" off to unplug them once I no longer need them in the spring.
