I'm a WV resident but am considering purchasing a new ATV in PA. The PA dealer wants to charge PA sales tax and title the ATV in PA. Eventually I will need to transfer this ATV to WV for tax purposes. I've heard conflicting reports on how much this will cost me. One DMV agent told me that I'd only have to pay taxes once. If I pay the PA sales tax it would only cost me $10 to transfer the title to WV. But another agent told me that I would be required to pay the $10 title transfer in addition to 5% sales tax regardless of whether I pay it in PA already.

Does anyone have first hand experience with this? Which agent was correct? I would hate to pay sales tax twice.

 

If you buy in PA you take it to WV to register.
