Default 00 Recon rear tires too wide???

My son's 00 Recon is a beast, this thing seems bulett proof. My only issue has been with the VEE RUBBER tires that came on it. They look great, kind of like the bear claw's but they come off the bead unless the pressure is 10 psi or greater. Any suggestions on mounting would be great.

The tires are 22-12-9, just curious is the 12" wide tire is too wide for the rim?

Are you sure the bead is seated properly? Are the tires coming off the bead towards the inside or outside? I would not go to much taller or wider than stock, because you risk power loss and tearing up drive components. The best way is to take it to a tire shop and have them do it. One did it for me for free (Local shop). To get the tire off drive a truck on a 2x4 over the edge of the tire to break the bead. To seat them get some tire irons to get it on and inflate to the bead setting psi on the sidewall, then crank on it with a ratchet strap until it pops into the bead. Don't over inflate the tire and if it doesn't seat with the strap , leave it on and throw it on the ground a few times.

Not sure what you mean by coming off on the inside or outside?

When he was riding the other day, he was trying to go up a hill and i noticed the rim just spinning and tire not moving on one side. We nursed it back to the trailer and pumped it up with air to about 12 psi and it seemed to hold up until the other tire did it later in the day.

I don't want to go with a higher or wider tire... The tires still have a lot of tread on them and i would like to make them work. However if they are too wide i will just have to pull the trigger on a new set of narrower rears.

Try setting the bead with the above method and use water as a lubricant to get the tire on. Just sounds like the bead isn't seated correctly.
