no fire on one side of coil

Default no fire on one side of coil

ok this is my first post as i am new to the site and i really need some help ! i have 2004 sportsman 700 efi and for some reason im only getting fire to one side of my coil. i replaced the coil thinking that it was the problem but its still doing the same thing ! could it be the ecm that has bit the dust

First thing pop the front panel and see if the the coil is separate of the cdi or a combo cdi/coil with the words Ducati on it.

Sorry didn't see the '"efi" on the description. If a new coil does the same as the old one,check the connection on it and at the ecu where it receives it's power. Shows three wires from the coil connector going back into the ecu. You may have to check continuity on these wires. If no breaks are shown,the problem could be in the connectors or the ecu itself.

will do ! if it is the ecu can i just buy one at the dealer and can they program it for me there with out me bringing the bike to em

No,the ecu has to be programmed while on the atv,hooked to Digital Wrench. It's not like a cdi that you can just toss on another machine and it will fire up. This is the down side to efi technology in that the average weekend mechanic is limited as to what he can do.We even swapped ecus from machine to machine in problem tracing and you have to reprogram it on the new machine. If you tried to replace it back on the original machine it had to be programmed again!
