I just picked up another 04 650 X the other day. I took it for a ride and then pulled the dip stick. I noticed some white junk at the top of the stick in the threads and at the top of the oil tank. I cleaned it off and did the same thing last night with the same result. I checked the radiator and it was full with nice green antifreeze. The overflow was just a bit under min. I find the temp of the bike around 175 with my temp gun. I proceeded to drain all the oil and it looked a bit dirty but no white in it. Hoping I didn’t get stuck with something like a head gasket issue

I had that on my pickup truck I bought,it looked like a thickish white cream at the oil fill hole and on the cap.
Turned out the guy used full Synthetic oil and I changed the oil with regular conventional oil and it causes some kind of chemical reaction.
Apparent it cause no harm and goes away after a oil change or two.

Maybe the same type of thing for you.

 

I used to work in a refinery and the lubrication experts told me that you can mix synthetic with regular oil with no problems. In fact I do it every year in my diesel truck, I use synthetic through the winter and regular for the summer and no white foam. The white foam is most likely residual water that has found it's way in to the engine either during assembly at the factory or through the filler plug. Another source is the engine coolant. If after you change the oil it comes back then you need to look at engine coolant leak, head gasket for example.

i remember reading about condensation in the ds650 oil tanks.My 02 and 01 both had that even after a top end rebuild.As long as i dont use coolant i dont worry about it.

 

I finally had a chance to take a good ride on it after changing the oil and going with Amsoil full synthetic oil. I am happy to report there is no more White junk and my coolant level in the overflow stayed at the same level.
I’ll chalk it up to being stored in a damp place by the previous owner.

I have that happen ALL the time to my 04ds650 baja x in the winter time. Never had an issue from it.

 

Don't be surprised if it happens again, likely the Water pump seal is failing forcing coolant into the oil, it vaporized when hot and condenses near the oil fill spout. There is a weep hole under the water pump, it's just a small pin sized hole that often get plugged with dirt or sand, if water drips from this hole it tells you the seal on the pump side is leaking. If the hole get plugged, it force the water past the second seal on the motor side and make the oil turn creamy. It's a pretty easy fix, two seals and your back in business.
