Oil Pump Priming Procedure
#1
Question on oil pump priming procedure with new piston. The manual call for "Run engine for 15-20 seconds at 3000-4000 rpm" is this procedure done right after initial start up? I'm reassembling after a rebuild and get nervous revving the engine right away.
What does that equal in throttle travel?

Thanks.

Just clamp off the oil tank vent with vice grips, crank it up let it idle for a couple minutes, then release the vice grips. This should be plenty long enough to allow the pump to prime up and circulate the oil through the engine.

I got her fired up but I have to keep fooling with the choke just to keep it runing. Does not want to idle like it used to. New top end, running 50:1 gas mix for break in. Outside temp in the 40"s
Same set up as last year. Pipe, filter. Is the gas mix messing with my carb? It sort of seems like a carb issue to me and I just dont want to burn her down but not sure.

NO need to run premix fuel for a four stroke engine!!! Get rid of this fuel, drain the carb bowl and clean the spark plug if necessary. After this is done and it still runs crappy check back into the carb. You may need to physically spray cleaner to get rid of any residue oil...
