Default 95 polaris 400 sport/2 storke

how do you get front pads off? The set screw is in the end of one of the pins that holds the pads on, it takes an allen head and appears to be more of a plug anything else...I don't see how it could hold the pin in..but I did remove it - but I can't get the pin out anyway.

I beat on it from both directions but it won't budge.

Whats the trick?

It's not just a plug! The set screw has to be removed to allow the caliper bracket to go back far enough to pry one end of the pad off, then it's easy on the other end of the pad.First off use a big screw driver, etc to push the piston all the way back, then pry out one end of the pad (at the set screw end) out off the slide.MAY still take a little prying! Once new pads are installed on both sides, pump up the brakes, turn one rotor at a time slowly, turn the set screw in until you feel a slight drag on the rotor then back off the set screw 1/8-1/4 turn. This adjusts the main pad against the rotor and helps align the caliper to the rotor properly. If the slides need to be greased, after the old pads are off just pull the slide out of the caliper(one boot will stay, one will come off),grease the slides and reinstall.
