Default 2000 scrambler 500 starting problem

I'm pretty new to this forum. Just bought a 2000 scrammy. Put a new cam in it. Timing is right on. It also needed a good carb cleaning so I got a kit and rebuilt it. The quad started before the carb rebuild, but now it won't. I'm getting spark. Put a new plug in anyway. The plug isn't getting wet though. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Check that you're getting fuel from the fuel pump to the carb. Just pull the fuel line to the carb and crank the engine over, should be a flow of fuel. If it's getting fuel through the line, and have spark as you say, then I'd recheck the carb, plus recheck the valve settings .006 intake and exhaust.

Excuse my ignorance, but this thing is killing me. It's almost as if the carb is flowing backwards. Spraying into the air box? Yeah, I'm getting fuel from the pump to the carb. Help, please?

Did you mark the lines as you removed them? The "p" on the pump is the vacuum line going to the right side of the carb, one line from the pump shows inlet from the fuel valve, the other is the outlet to the carb.

I got it figured out. The valve clearance was just a hair off. Bought a new tool and adjusted it. Fired right up and runs great. Thanks for all your help, OPT. This is an old machine so I'm sure I'll be running into more problems.

Glad you got it fixed. A service manual can help you a lot on future problems.http://www.ebay.com/itm/1997-2000-Polaris-SCRAMBLER-500-4X4-Repair-Manual-Clymer-M363-Service-Shop-/380651786702?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item58a09d51ce&vxp=mtr
