Does the 20% more power translate into 20% less miles on a tank of Gas. Did anyone who went from a SP non-HO to the HO find that there riding range went down and by how much?

I doubt it would effect it at all, it might actually do better. More power to weight ratio the motor does not have to work as hard to do the same ammount if work. not sure of this only my guess.

Wouldnt the bigger carb consume more gas?

It could consume more gas but then again, we need to remember that it is a CV carburator and only theoretically delivers what the engine requires.

But... yes they do use more gas.

I had a 99 sp500 and now have a HO With 800 mi. on it, my milreage is about 5% worse for the 20% increase in power. I think its a fair price to pay. No regrets.

I agree with Thor. It wouldn't necessarily burn more gas. It would likely burn 20% more gas for the 20% power increase, but only if you used the 20% more power. Unless you did a lot of full-throttle operation I don't think it would make much difference.

I agree with snosnake, although I’ve yet to put any real numbers on it. Performance is up and range per tank is down, for sure. Our HOs were still being broken in when the snow hit, and we always use more fuel in the snow so I won’t have a true assessment of the reduction in range till it stops snowing, if that ever happens. Got another 11” of snow last weekend, that makes 290.2” for the season as of yesterday and more in the forecast for this week. When all this melts I think we’ll be riding our Max for a while, at least that can swim.

I ride with my old SP, my buddy bought it when I got my H.O. Gas mileage is down 3 to 5%, performance is up 3 to 5%. There is so little difference between the two. The gas shocks make the H.O. ride stiffer, which makes it jump better, but not ride as well. The SP and the H.O. are dead even going up these mountain sandwashes, both do 40 going up and 50+ coming down. Neither can pull up on the other going up. 20% is a gross exageration.
Dissapointed with the H.O. I tried cams, carbs, clutches and pipes with no success.
Today I joined 3TV. I bought a Bombardier DS-650. I pick it up on Friday. XCT Holeshots, Timmy Boy upper A-arms, skid plate. I have yet to ride one. I am keeping the H.O...for a while..
whatever doesn't get ridden gets sold. I may end up with both.......
Silly Later,,,,Fourlix
