Default Polaris sportsman 500x2 2009 map sensor problem?

Hello there i am very new to this, not to sure if i posted in correct thread. I have a 2009 polaris sportsman 500 x2, i noticed it started to loose power when high revs so i took it to my local polaris dealer and it come back as the map sensor, he then noticed the wires had come out of the connection , anyways he put new prongs on the end of wires and fitted it back in and everything was fine. I then noticed it was doing it again so it musnt of holded up even though he put some silicon around it. He told me that if it happend again i would have to get a complete wiring loom for quad as the map sensor is part of wiring loom, and then he droped the bombshell and said it would be a pricey job. Just wanted to know if he is trying to have my pants down with the wiring loom or is he telling me the truth. Many thanks

Dan

Check out the "sticky" section above this one on 700/800 efi electrical problems. Applies to the 500 efi also. Sensors weren't normally the problem, but the thin wire harness and connectors were. They could break internally and cause problems. Heavy duty after market ones are available instead of using the thin, cheap Polaris harness kits that the dealer should have at least known about. This is the website also for the kits. The 500 harness kit is shown at the bottom right of the page. Only The Best

The shop i went to is meant to be biggest in europe, they possibly didnt mention this harness as they wanted me to pay for new wiring loom which i was going to also does any body know how to reset the service light after doing a service. Many thanks again

If I remember correctly have in neutral, hold the reverse override button down while turning the switch off and on 3 times. Diagnostic mode will appear. Voltage should be first, toggle the button until you see the wrench symbol. Hold the button down and it will show OFF. Hold the button down again until the wrench flashes, let up on the button, depress it again and it will count up to 250 hrs. Stop at the service interval hours you want it to flash and wait until the wrench quits flashing. Then turn the key off.The speedo is then set and the hrs will count down and flash when service is due. The Polaris map sensor harness repairs kits(junk!) were easily installed with the supplied heat shrink connectors.I haven't used the OTB kits, but assume they're just as easy and should have instructions also.

I used the harness from (only the best) was very easy and straight forward. (only the best) is far superior to the oem kits.

Sorry to re open thread, i had a look at this part i think it was called the pressure sensor on the website, it didnt say anything about it working on the x2 model, does anybody know if it works on both the 500 efi and the 500 x2 efi. Regards
