Flywheels
#1
I'm looking for a straight yes or no answer. Everything else I've read has beat around the bush without answering. I have a 2000 Scrambler 500. The flywheel and stator are trashed. It has a ff97 on it now. Will a ff 95 work? If yes, do I need a specific stator for it? If no, then ok. It seems the flywheels on ebay that say they are for 500 engines are mostly ff95s. Thanks in advance.

I can't tell you if either one will interchange because I've never tried it! But I can tell you BOTH fly wheels are junk as the magnets will fly off and trash stators like yours has already done. If one came into the shop I ordered the updated enclosed magnet flywheel along with a new stator. Expensive,Yes,but if you plan on keeping it,I'd do it right or it can do the same thing again. But that's just me..

That makes sense. Excuse my ignorance again, but if the sportsman and the scrambler have the same motor, why are all the flywheels for the sportsmans labeled ff95. That's the part that's messing with me.

Both the 2000 Sportsman 500 and Scrambler 500 used the same flywheel according to the parts breakdown. Both supercede to the same updated enclosed magnet flywheel,SO I would assume a ff95 and a ff97 old style would interchange, but you know what assume means...
