Question 95 Scrambler wont idle(ETC issue) and dies in reverse

Hello All -

I am getting beaten up trying to figure out this issue on a 1995 Scrambler 400 4x4. It runs great, it just will not idle, as soon as the the throttle comes to rest the ETC switch opens and the unit dies, if I hold the switch so it makes contact the unit will continue to run. One other thing is it will die when put in reverse if you do not hold the override button. I have checked the switch continuity and it opens and breaks the circuit as it should. Do I have a bad CDI? or do you have other suggestions?? Thanks for the help

That's how its works alright. here's how you adjust it. click the top line high lighted in yellow, not the play button it does not work for some reason. http://www.ehow.com/video_4468404_polaris-atv-thumb-throttle-maintenance.html
Some people but tape between the contacts and just get rid of the system.

Disconnect the black wire from the reverse limiter and it shouldn't die in reverse and you'll have full power in reverse without having to mess with the over ride button. The etc switch kinda works hand in hand with the limiter and if the contacts close it will die, open it should idle.If the limiter screws up it can mess with the etc switch also. Adjust to where you have 1/8" slack at the thumb throttle only after you disconnect the limiter and see how it does. Limiter is #18 located under the front panel.
