While riding the other day the neutral indicator switch/light has stopped working. Even when the quad is in neutral the light doesn't come on, and you have to pull in the hand brake to start the machine. Its not that big of deal but it is kind of annoying. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so what I should look at to fix it.

i have a timberwolf so i dont know if they are similar or not but on mine when it does that if you look behind the gear shifter down on the motor there is a little sending unit type switch with a cord running from it if you push on it it should go in and your light will light up in the neutral indicator. if so just pull it off and use pliars or something to pinch it together to help retighten it on the motor. mine would do this when it got lose and/or when it would get excessively wet. this was just a shot in the dark if they are similar if not good luck on your problem

The Beartracker and the Timberwolf are almost the same machine so you are probably correct. Only problem is I am having trouble getting a hold of where the wire connects to the sensor. Not much room there. But now that I know thats probably where the problem is I will reattempt to check it.
Thanks for the info.

i know this is 14 years later, but mine (96 2wd timberwolf) started doing this very thing. i was having to jump the solenoid to get the quad to start. after consulting the wiring diagram in the clymer manual, it is the neutral sensor. the sensor is directly behind the shifter, pointing straight down.

the wire is in a black sheath, and if you trace the wire up, it has a quick connect fitting covered in clear plastic to keep it clean, and the color of the wire is SB aka Sky Blue, and it connects directly to the starter cutoff relay.
