97 Sportsman 500 Hooked battery up backwards
#1
I recently and most stupidly hooked a new battery up backwards. After I realized what had happened, I corrected the condition and the quad started. The quad will not stay charged now. The battery will run down overnight. I'm wondering what I could have fried that could be pulling the battery down now.
Any ideas or direction I should go from here?
Thanks

More than likely fried the regulator/rectifier as the red wire to it is hot when you hook the battery up right.Very lucky if this is all that happened. Just to make sure, at an idle or a little above check to see if it's charging around 14 volts back to the battery, plus check the connections at the regulator as the wires were bad about coming loose from vibration.Located at the front of the atv right behind the radiator. Shows to be a #4060133. Here's about the cheapest place I've found rather than paying dealer prices. Polaris ATV Rectifier Regulator

At just above idle, I'm getting high 10s to 11 volts. Now granted, the battery is dead, but I'm assuming that I should still be reading ~14 volts on the battery cables with the engine just above idle?
