Default reverse button override

I have an `02 Sportsman 500 and am setting it up to plow. I read the applicable thread to modding the reverse button and while looking at the wiring diagram it looks like I could splice the purple wire to the gray/white and achieve the mod there.?

Schematic shows 3 wires to the overide switch,purple(reverse),grey/white (awd power) plus there's a grey/red in released position that contacts the purple. Try this jump on the grey/white and purple and see if it works.

I appreciate the input OPT. I think I found the wires in a harness by the radiator cap. When I get back to it and make the splice I will surely post results. It`s cold and nasty here and have lots of chores besides this.

If you're talking about the module up from the radiator, that's the regulator rectifier. The reverse limiter is built into the speedo and wiring goes from the speedo harness to the left control switch. You'd either have to tap into the switch wiring or at the speedo. And I can't say whether it would affect the speedo if you did it there or not. Item #35. I`m referring to wires in split loom coming from handlebar switch. The split loom is rearward of the radiator cap and the wire colors are consistant with the diagram. Admittadly I`m concerned that these are the right wires. The speedo is screwy anyway so don`t care about that much.

I cut the purple and gray white wires in the loom behind the radiator. Used my trusty power probe and deduced the correct end of the gray/white to work with. Jumped the gray/white to the hot side of the purple wire and have 4wd in reverse without pushing the yellow button. The bad side to this is the reverse indicator light comes on in forward gear. So I`ll be tapping off of a red/white wire as the posted tip states. You live and learn. Nothing damaged and I`m on to to not having to push the yellow button. Don`t know why they did it to begin with. If I don`t want 4wd in reverse now I`ll just turn off the awd switch.

Try this method instead. How one guy wired his up.

Trace wires from the override button (gray/white & gray/orange) Cut the gray/orange and tape up both ends. Cut the gray/white and tape up the end which goes to the override button. Connect the other end of the gray/white to the red/white (ignition supplied 12v) You may or may not have the reverse indicator show up on the speedo though.
