1985 big red 250es engine disassembly queastion
#1
Hello all. I am new to this forum. I have recently acquired a 84 big red 200es and a 85 250es. I am trying to sell the 200 and want to fix the 250. The 250 ran when I bought it. I was told up front that there was a crack in the case around the starter. I located the crack (repaired with JB weld). There is a chunk out of the left engine cover and the left crankcase half (why not just the left cover) under the starter. I guess the previous owner went HERCULAIN with a rachet.
I have purchased the parts off of ebay. The service manual states when disassembling the crankcase, lay the engine on the left crankcase and go to work. My question is can I lay the engine on its right side and remove the left side since that is the damaged side? Has anyone tried this before? Thanks for any advice!!

Just easier on the left side because of the output gears and shaft it has all of the transmission gears, shims, washer on it,,hard to get off from right side BUT yes can be done just has to be real carefl and pay attenion to everything inside.
