Oil change suggestions
#1
Certainly don't want to start a hassle here since I've seen my share over oil and tires on various forums. The question I have for anyone with experience is : any benefit to switching a 2000 xpedition to Ams oil at this stage. Original owner told me he's used the Polaris stuff since day 1. I use Ams exclusively in everything I own (except the wife's car). Thanks in advance.

yes you will be fine switching over to amsoil....if you want you can try the Rotella T6 5-40 also..its a great oil for these machines....it had a good additive package..heavy duty..an its a full synthetic also....I use the Rotella and for rest of fluids i use the amsoil but I do use the Demand drive plus for the hubs...till I run out...
front diff I use Amsoil severe ger lube
transmision I use Amsoil chaincase oil....
anti freeze I use amsoil anti freeze
oil filter I use either Wix or Puralator Pure Onei
I also Add 2-3 oz of liqui moly anti friction to engine oil...for the winter cold starts
not a tick in the engine ..runs smooth....

It does not matter ,the main thing is both the OEM Polaris oil and Amsoil are full synthetic.
I use to go back and forth all the time when my dealer sold a oil change kit for only $25. He raised his prices so now I just use 0w-40 Amsoil and a aftermarket oil filter from walmart or Canadian tire.

Ordered amsoil fluids and filters. Will tackle Bendix once it warms up a bit. Any other preventative measures or adjustments beyond greasing I should do to this new to me machine.

You didn't say whether you have an Expedition 325 or 425. If it's the 425 hope you ordered 6 quarts of oil as it takes 5.5 quarts plus filter. A good service manual is worth the money.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Polaris-2001-Xpedition-325-425-Factory-Original-Service-Repair-Manual-/121219452941?pt=Motors_Manuals_Literature&hash=item1c393e100d&vxp=mtr

Install Fuel filter if there isn't one

Do they just have a much larger oil tank?

No oil tank on the Expedition as all the oil is internal and has a internal 5 speed gear box and wet clutches similar to Honda and Yamaha. Surprised me when I did my first oil change on one as to how much oil it took.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

Yes,but most other machines take about 3 quarts on oil and filter changes for this size engine, not 5 1/2. Even my old Honda 750 holds only 3.1 quarts including the oil cooler. When I drained my first Expedition I thought it was gas contaminated because of the amount in the pan. That's when I pulled the manual and saw the 5.5 quarts listed and it took that amount to refill it.I think Polaris may have been a little scared about the internals and over compensated with this engine
