Default Carb Brass bb's What in the heck are these?

I am working on a 89 TRX300 2x4 ATV, the carb. Won't idle without choke, enrichment on.
Have a new Keihin Brand jet #42. #40 is stock, so went up one size. Swapped a 99 TRX300 Carb, idles perfectly, so troubleshooting is narrowed down to the carb. Reading various threads all over the net about how to clear clogged idle circuit etc. None of that is really my question, but working on this carb has my curiosity going!!

My question is what are those little brass bb's on the outside of the carb? (see pics)

They are passageway block-offs or caps. When you make a carb you have to drill all sorts of passages from one side to the other. If you leave one end open fuel will leak out. This is what they block the passage off with.
