2000 SP 500 pulling hard right, then left
#1
I was out yesterday running in 4 wheel and noticed at one point it was pulling hard to the right. I stopped for a minute and took off again and it went away. Then a few minutes later it was pulling hard to the left and then went away in less than a minute.
It never did it again in an hours run. I was only going maybe 1-2 mph at the time. Any idea what the heck that was?

I have the same quad and have had the same issue. What I have noticed with my machine is it starts when I back up in awd. If I back up any distance I take it out of awd and have no problems with pulling.
Thought it might be a issue with the front end. This fall I rebuilt the front end. Replaced the front diff, strut bearings, wheel bearings, armature plates among many other parts. Everything was torqued to spec and I used the real demand drive fluid. Still had the same issue, occasionally.
When my 500 starts pulling it feels like 1 of the front tires is engaged and the other is not. Even tho the rear tires are not breaking free.

Well... it's nice to know I'm not alone.
Out of curiosity, do you have 4 wheel in reverse? I don't. This is my first quad and I'm in for a learning experience I can see.
PS. You're right. It WAS just after I had backed up, now that I think about it. I was just a bit concerned that it might want to do that when I was at a higher speed. That wouldn't turn out very well.

When awd fluid is cold at first start in the morning I've had a bunch do this. Some would unlock after a short while, some I'd have to stop, back up then go forward to unlock em. Seems like it happened a lot more in winter than summer.I think the armature plate is dragging/sticking on the sleeve letting the hillard ramp up in the hub. Just a nuisance with the hub system.Once the oil moves around and warms up the system works well.

Good to know. It was in the mid 20's when I went for a ride. I'll just stay away from sharp cliffs till it warms a up a bit. Scared the crap out of me the first time. I was only 2 feet to the edge and pulled that way. Almost had to clean my britches.
Thanks you guys!!

Well that's nice to know. No manual came with this thing and I haven't found one in the short time I've had it. It is on my minnie bucket list though.
Thanks jgar.

I got mine about 8 months ago. Its the first 4x4 I have owned. Spent the last 20+ yrs on sportys. When I first got the popo couldnt even figure out that you push the start button up to start it.
