Does the rear axle have to be removed to install the PRM or the Graydon Swingarm rear skid plates? I heard that the axle has to be removed to install one of these. Has anybody put one of these your DS650, and how much trouble was it? thanks for any input you can provide.

PRM NO QUEATIONS. NO, THE AXLE DOES NOT HAVE TO BE REMOVED. YOU WILL HAVE TO REMOVE THE REAR SPROKET AND THE BRAKE DISK THOUGH. PRM, QUALITY----QUALITY----QUALITY, PERFECT FIT, PERFACT WELDING.
BOY YOU NEED THAT STEERING STABALIZER WHAT A DIFFERENCE.

Hey dhenricks,
I have Pro-Tect skids. You don't have to take off brakes or nothing. Pretty small. Stanless steel. I can send you pic's if you like.

I have the Graydon rear skid($104 shipped) and steering dampner($200)You don't have to remove the rear axle to install the Graydon skid plate(just the sprocket & brake rotor)but it takes a little time to get to the old plastic skids(and have the shop manual handy). The Graydon skid plate comes with no instructions or mounting bolts and it won't clear a 42 tooth or larger rear sprocket with out re-dilling some holes.Sounds like the PRM skid would have been the way to go.As far as the steering dampner it works great and you can ajust it for different riding conditions, but again it come's with no instruction so if you havent seen one mounted before(i hadn't)it may leave you scratching your head on how to mount it.from what I have seen there are a couple of ways to install it.
