Usually the problem is either the idle is too high, the machine creeps while in gear because of belt/clutch problems or the shift box internals worn over the years. Linkage adjustment may help. Have it neutral, loosen the linkage end lock nuts, remove the linkage ends from the shift levers. While linkage is off check for slack in shift lever. If it's a lot, linkage adjustment may not help. Adjust the ball ends on the linkage to where they fall straight in to the shift box levers with no resistance and tighten the lock nuts then replace the linkage end nuts. See if it shifts better.Plus check that the belcranks(shift levers) are tight on the transmission. Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse
