I just bought a new 2001 Warrior on Friday and everybody tells me that i should take it easy on it for the first couple tanks of gas so it can break in the motor. So i was wondering if this was true. Also my motor is makeing a clicking sound when it is idling so is that normal? Last is the Warrior a good type of racing machine and do ya'll think it would beat a stock 300ex

I would think you should break the motor in by riding it easy, for a while....I've never had a new machine though but I've always heard to break the motor in.

Hey man I always take it easy until you change the oil for the first time. Cause the motor needs to be broke in. And also when you change to oil for the first time there will be metal shavings in the oil don't fret that is normal. And as for the clicking sound can't help ya there. And for racing it won't win any drag races with 400EXs, Raptors, DS650s or FX400s. But when running with 300EXs, Mojaves, 250EX the Warrior will win in a drag against them. This is only true if all machines are totally stock. You have an awesome machine if you take care of it. Don't worry when people with 400EXs or faster quads pick on ya about losing to them. Just tell the owners of the 400EXs or DS650 or FX400 try to use your reverse. As for the Raptor owners well that is a Yamaha so just accept defeat. Good Luck with your Warrior.

1BadWarrior will your warrior keep up with a stock 400ex or beat it. I rode a 400ex and it's a pretty bad machine. A really great whillie machine. I was thinking of getting a warrior or 400ex.both are awsome machine's.

I have a 2001 warrior also. It details in the owners manual how to break it in. Have to take it easy on it the first 20 hours, using different throttle amounts, etc. I've noticed that mine clicks also. It seems to be coming from the left side of the motor case. I think it is the cam chain. The clicking seems to go away if you idle it up a bit. I haven't torn mine apart to see what makes it click yet.

Your owners manual will tell you about break in procedures. My Mojave was something like don't go past half throttle for the first 5 hours or something and we just bought a 2001 TrailBoss last week and it was like 3hours of riding without going past 1/2 throttle. Then it will tell you what maintenance to do after the first 10 hours or so.

the ticking on my warrior when it was new turned into a spent cam, valves, head rockers etc..
someone at the factory was having a bad day and forgot to attach the oil feed tube to the top end.
it could be the valves need adj, wich is normal for breakin .good luck

Definately break it in for at least 10 to 15 hours. The ticking is probably your valves in need of adjustment. They need to be adjusted quite often so get used to it. As far as beating a 300 ex, let me tell you this, I just got back from KY for ATV Nationals. I was the only warrior in my heat, the rest were super modded 400 ex's. I was in 8th place out of 19 riders on the last 1/2 lap when I came up short on a double and bit it. So to answer your ?, yes it can. Mine is heavily modified though. Have fun on it, it is a great machine.
