This will be my first quad and I'm looking for advise from some of the more experienced quad owners. I've recently moved to a large piece of property and need something to tow a small trailer, mainly for hauling yard waste. Additionally, I will be using the quad for deer and bear hunting a few times a year. So far, these are the two that I like the best but I'm open to other suggestion in the same price range. At first I thought I would buy a larger used quad in the 700 or 800cc range but I think that may be overkill for what I need. Any input is appreciated.

The 570 (567cc) DOHC liquid efi 42hp is in a different league vs the 400 (376cc) SOHC air cooled ,carb 25hp.

Just the motor class is a big spread then you get into chassis and suspensions which gets worst.

The 570 is a full size chassis with IRS and rear hydraulic brakes
The 400kq is mid chassis with SRA and mechanical rear drum brakes. I don't even think the Eiger has awd diff lock.

The more expensive and better full size Suzuki IRS 500 EFI KQ (35hp) with diff lock has nothing over the 570 let alone its little 376cc brother.

The 500H.O was replaced by the new 570 and it would never even be in the same shootout as the 400 Eiger (now called KQ) because they were to far apart in class.

Can't believe the air cooled 376 and 570 are even close in price.

Its like comparing a mid chassis air cooled carb SRA 350 Grizzly to a full size IRS liquid EFI 550 Grizzly.

Even the cheaper 400 Sportsman (455cc) has more power (32hp) and features over the 400 Eiger (sorry, now called King Quad) I keep forgetting. http://www.atvreviewnetwork.com/enth...=307763&go2=Go see for yourself.

The new 570 motor is in a side by side now where as the 376 would not have the power to move a SXS.

Are you sure 570 and 400 are in the same price range?

If I was getting a 376 Eiger I would look at the Yamaha 350 Grizzly they have the same mid chassis, hp ,suspension,SRA and drum brake but the Yamaha is $1000 less. http://www.atvreviewnetwork.com/enth...2=309906&go=Go

 

I'd also get the Polaris 570. IRS and legendary Polaris ride is uber-comfortable. 570 has as much power as you'll ever need and won't be as easily taxed as the smaller Suzuki engine. I believe the Eiger is solid axle rear suspension that is less comfortable riding and has less ground clearance than the IRS Polaris.

 

Suzuki won't even tell you how much suspension travel they have. I guess they aren't very proud of it. They don't tell you everything in their specs do you have to guess at a lot. The Polaris has more ground clearance and tons more power plus that comfortable ride that the Sportsman is famous for. Looking at the specs for the King Quad it doesn't look like you can switch it out of 4x4 or lock it in. That would give you the harder turning effort of 4 wheel drive at all times with the traction of 3 wheel drive. The 2 quads aren't even in the same class no matter what you look at.

 

That's for all the input, you've halped me reach a decision. Oddly enough, MSRP is the same on the King Quad 400 and the Sportsman 570.

They sure raised the price on the little Eiger/King Quad when they added EFI .2013 Suzuki KingQuad® 400FSi ATVs
MSRP went from $5,249.00 to $6,499.00.

The much more powerful and loaded 450 Grizzly cost less now!2013 Suzuki KingQuad® 400FSi ATVs

And the mid frame Grizzly 450 has IRS, difflock , hydraulic rear disc, and a 421cc liquid cooled motor.
Suzuki can,t be selling many 400 Eigers at that price.

Im, not sure where Suzuki is measuring that 9.8" ground clearance but its not from under the rear differential or axle where it should be or it would read 5" at most.
No ATV without IRS can have 10" ground clearance unless it has 30" monster mud tires.

I might think the 500 KQ with IRS ,liquid cooling, full size frame and disc brakes might cost as much as the SP570 but not the 400.

 

The 570 has 45 hp.It would be a no brainer for me, the 570.

 

The Sportsman 570 would definitely give you the best bang for your buck. It probably has more than enough power for all but the most power hungry. It is very close in power to the Yamaha Grizzly 700 and the grizz costs a lot more. The new Can-Am Outlander 500 L is another one to consider, though it will cost a little more than the Polaris. With the Can-Am 500 engine being a v-twin, it actually makes slightly more power than the bigger displacement 570 single.
