Default 2000 kodiak 400

hey there everyone,
I have 2000 Kodiak 400 that the cdi keeps going bad. Does anyone else have this problem, or know what needs to be done to fix this problem. When I bought this bike the computer was bad, and I purchase a new one. Now that one has gone bad as well. This is an expensive problem to keep fixing.

Any known history of the machine being flooded out? Is it getting wet somehow? Are you using factory replacements?

When you get a new CDI there is a warning that the earth to it must be connected or it will blow, so an intermittent earth fault could be the problem. I once blew a new CDI when I fitted it to a bike that was overcharging. With the engine running, check the voltage across the battery doesn't go over 14.5v. If it does, fit a new regulator.

Defiantly something wrong since Yamaha has no known issues with CDI.
My old 1989 Big bear is still running with the same CDI box after 26 years.

Hey there, thanks for your speedy reply.there is no known flood or submerged damage to this bike.when I bought the bike it wasn't running,so I bought a factory cdi from partzilla.300$
I haven't checked voltage because it want stay running long enough, but a bad ground would make since. Should I run an extra ground wire straight off the computer.

Check all of the grounds. Engine, frame, etc. Anytime you replace a computer this should be done.

It could be bad wiring under the gas tank and the heat from exhaust pipe or coil
