1995 Xplorer 400 Polaris Starter
#1
I recently purchased a used 95 Xplorer 400 and the Starter has quit working. I did all the electric checks to ensure the solenoid is working and the starter is receiving sufficient power. I read many posts about removing the Clutches from the left side of machine to access the starter mounting bolts however when I crawled under ATV the back of the existing starter isn't attached to anything although it has a bracket. I also read that there are 2 bolts you access by removing the recoil starter. I removed the recoil starter and there are 2 bolts there, however it looks like there is a hole for a third bolt that goes through the recoil starter housing. It wasn't present, but when I removed the starter it also has this 3rd hole. The manual doesn't show the mounting details but is there a chance this 1995 model is suppose to just mount with three bolts (2 inside recoil housing, and 2 through it)? I took a close look under the ATV and although there was a bracket on the starter I can't identify any holes this bracket would attach too.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

If you just pull the clutch cover, clutches and backing plate, the starter bracket stares you in the face. There are two bolts holding the bracket to the engine, two to the starter end and yes two bolts in the recoil housing holding the front part. Here's a cheap place on starter and bendix. Plus you can check on ebay.DB Electrical - 400
