Default Front hub leak

I have a 1994 400l 6x6 and had to replace the hillard clutch. When I did that I also did the hub seal because I noticed oil on the inside of the rim. I plowed the driveway a few times and now noticed oil on inside of rim and none in hub, ,when I pulled the cap off the hub. There is no oil on my brake rotor so now I am wondering if maybe it is the strut hub seal as it seems to wet with oil on the ball joint.Thx. P.S it was in Awd when plowing.

Did you press the seal in flush with the hub? Was the seal sleeve grooved or damaged in anyway that the seal rides on? Plus this flexloc nut has a certain way to torque down. Called rolling torque in the manual. Usually on reusing these nuts I ended up with 20 pounds final torque. If your torque is less could be why the hub seal is leaking.

Default Hub seal leak

Hi Old polaris tech,
I did it just like the manual. The hub seal looked in good condition, I only changed it because I had the hub off.I notice more oil on my front strut can the hub fluid even get thru the hub to the strut seal? If it was the hub seal shouldn't I have oil on my brake rotor? That's why I thought the strut seal.

If the strut seal is leaking you can usually find a wet spot under the cv on the inside of the strut. I always replaced both hub and strut seals just in case. Some times it takes a little while for new seals to get supple enough to seal off any leaks. Keep the hub filled and run a it a while. If it still leaks, then could be the seal, seal sleeve and on rare occasions fluid can leak between the sleeve body and the strut. Cold weather doesn't help much on "seating" new seals also.

It probably is the strut seal because that is where the leak is at the ball joint , you would almost think the ball joint was leaking, which it can't I know, I was just making a point. The hub was empty of oil when i first removed it when I did the clutch and the Atv had been sitting for a while. Maybe I will keep filling it and try driving it more see if it seals if not I guess replace it. Thanks Old Tech!!

Yes that's the reason I always replaced both seals at the same time. Hated to have to go back into something twice.
