Rear Bumper for AC 500
#1
Has anyone put a rear bumper on an AC 500? That tail light is out there all alone and backing up in the brush at night might break it. Brands, cost, and ease of application information would be great if someone can help. Thanks

A few of us have the Kimpex rear bumper (Andy, Boner I believe, Scotto and possibly Alex???) on our 'Cats. It is about the same size tubing as the front middle heavy duty part on the 500's, if that makes any sense-probably close to 2" or just under I would guess. It bolts on using hangers and brackets that attach to the frame and rear rack. Installation is easy, though the hardest part was breaking one of the bolts loose on the frame-seems to be the right side if I remember right, it was a bear to remove. Purchased from Cabela's for around $60-65 if I remember right. Protects the break light nicely, mine also houses a pair of 55w halogen back-up lights. Definately a heavy duty bumper, I've run over several trees and such with it-used it at times as a "ramming" point for breaking large timber that had been dead, or rotted at the base, works pretty well.
Hope that helps, I've got a picture of it at the link below, under "snow pics" I believe, seems it was one of the last pictures in that sequence.
Best of luck,
Mike

No bumpers on my cat-- yet. Gonna either make or get some kinda rear bumper. I have had my rear tail light torn off by The_Law on our first ride. It was realy loose after that and fell out. A freind of mine ended up dirlling holes in the 2 cone shaped thinks and sliding clips threw the holes to hold it on. Works great. I want one for a few reasons, like: Getting a tap from behind when stuck, protect my muffler and tail light, mount lights to, etc.
