Default 06 Sportsman 500EFI Slips Out of Low

The quad has been doing this for a few years now. When I'm working it (not just trail riding) such as hauling wood or plowing snow it sometimes doesn't engage into low when shifted and/or pops out under initial loading. It will grind a bit and when the idle comes back down on the engine it will clunk in and work as it should.

Any suggestions on what to check / adjust?

Thanks!

Not much to the straight line shifter, but you can check for any play in the belcrank or shift linkage itself. Might be time to crack open the shift gear cover and check it out. Could be a chipped tooth on the main shift gear or possibly just needs cleaning and greasing.Cover is #3.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Polaris, Suzuki & Kawasaki OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse Plus some good pics on a similar selector on a 700. http://www.polarisatvforums.com/foru...an-2004-a.html

Thanks OPT. The pics of the 700 are nasty! I hope mine doesn't look like that! Will have to check on it next time I'm home.
