I've been procrastinating for about 1 1/2 months now trying to figure out which atv to buy. Where I live has about every type of riding except dunes, so if you had the money to buy any atv, what would you get and why. Your answer might help me make my choice.

That is sort of a tough question, for me all around riding means i need 4wd, i am getting the prairie 650 if it ever gets here, but for all kinds of riding i would think a scrambler 500 4x4 would be great, fast enough to keep up with people, but able to get through the tough stuff with the utility atv's. I would love to have a ds650 or raptor, but like you i ride all kinds of different terrain,so i like stuff like scramblers, explorers(fast for a 4x4) and the coming prairie, if i didnt need 4wd then i would have a raptor in a heartbeat, seems good all around, fast, good trailrider from what i have heard, plus reverse

I forgot to mention that a sport atv is what I want, so what would you buy?

IF you want a "sport/trail" machine, the Scramblers are great. If you want a true "sport" machine, check out the April issue of ATVSport magazine. They did another shoot out between the DS650, Raptor, 400ex, and the 500 Scrambler. This may answer some of your questions. Of course, following this post will be all of the "Shoot outs are biased BS" posts. But the article might help you see some of the good and bad points of each quad. Good luck with whatever you choose.

IF I HAD THE MONEY I WOULD WAIT FOR THE NEW 700 4 STROKE RACER THAT POLARIS IS BRINGING OUT....IT WOULD BE GOOD ON TRAILS IN SAND ON A TRACK AND MOST LIKELY IN THE MUD ....I THINK THIS QUAD WOULD BEST FOR U

Scrambler 400 4x4, automatic transmisson is simple for someone just getting into the sport and 4wd to help pull youn out of almost anything you get into. I say the 400 b/c it is 2 stroke and easily upgreded as desired. It can keep up w/ sport quads easily, mud with the utili's and is simple to drive( and just plain fun from what i have heard). In my opinion it is just a great all around quad(that's why i want one myself).

I went through the exact same problem when I was first shopping for an ATV. I really wanted a full sport quad but I knew that in Pennsylvania I would get more riding and enjoyment from a 4x4. I definately wanted to be able to go 2x4 which let out the Wolverine (this was a early favorite). There wasnt much left to look at. I had heard so many bad things about Polaris and their network of dealers. After some hard thinking I couldnt dismiss the Scrambler. I took a chance and went shopping, I came home with a Scram 500 4x4 and have never once regreted it. The group I ride with has designated me the one to try everything before they do it. The Polaris 4x4 system is the best bar-none. If your looking for the all around ATV you would be hard pressed to find one better than the Scram. You may want to ask yourself if your looking for an ATV that has the ability to plow or haul heavier loads and if thats the case maybe a Magnum, Explorer or Sportsman. Realize first of all that you wont be the fastest man on the planet but you will have good ground clearance good to great suspension good handleing the ease of Auto tranny and with the proper maintenence that any ATV needs an extremely dependable quad. For my money I still go without a second thought for a Scrambler.
