Default my Polaris will not go over 20 mph any ideas why

I was riding and took a break when I came back my Polaris 500 sportsman would not go over 20 mph

Kind of a general description to what's happening as it could be carb related,electrical or even clutch/belt related.First thing I'd do is check out the belt and clutches.Another area to check depending on year model is the reverse over ride module. If it shorts out,can limit speed in forward gear also.
