Cool Coolster 125cc LED light add

Turned out pretty good. A piece of aluminum diamond plate on top of the battery cover will finish it off.

All lit up.

Crash bar mounted to front of box.

Box trial mounted after being sprayed with truck bed liner.

Side view. Box uses existing bumper mounts

Box welded up and trial fit.

The stock headlights on my boy's quad was weak and the clear lens has started to yellow, so I've wanted to add an LED light system to brighten things up. My worry was that the starting battery wouldn't be enough to keep up with the current demands, so I decided that an auxiliary battery would be the way to go.
While planning a mounting location, I realized that an additional 20lbs over the front wheels would help to calm down the overly stiff front suspension.
I came up with this battery box that bolts to the front crash bar mounts, then I modified the crash bar and welded it to the battery box.
I used 1.25" angle iron and some flat stock I had laying around. Came out pretty good.

Those two led light bars should have been easily powered up by a properly charging atv system. That battery box up front actually scares me as a dad. The heavy weight up front like that might send your kid over the bars. I like your ingenuity tho.

Ya stock charging system has more than enough to run LED. I agree with the above statement that scares me. Extra weight up front will make it harder to control, Hitting bumps i can see it possibly shorting out, And if he crashes into something that could be trouble.

Actually, no the stock charging system has trouble keeping up with the charging requirements of extended night time running. I have 3 of these machines and have been dealing with it for the 3+ years that I've had them.
I didn't wake up one morning and say "I think I'll spend a day or two in the shop and blow a hunnerd bucks so I can build something that isn't necessary" Doh.
I added the extra weight to overcome the too stiff front suspension and it works beautifully. The rider's weight is positioned primarily over the rear shock, leaving the twin front shocks with little to do except bounce around. That makes it very dangerous at speed in rough terrain and tends to be painful after a day of riding.
This addition has solved this, provides plenty of juice for the lighting, allows for the addition of more lighting if desired and if you have jumper cables, we'll be happy to jump start your battery dead quad when come across it.
As a Dad myself, I can truly say that one is careless to buy one of these machines for his child to begin with and I've heard all the safety lectures. Save them please.
If you don't like it, don't build it.

Sounds like you don't want an opinion, then why post your Mod here?

I run bigger led bar on a little 110. I have yet to have issues with the charging system. It has no issues and starts everytime.
Their is a reason manufacturor does not put a battery out front like that. But i guess they are all wrong.

I look to this forum to provide helpful advice on these maintenance intensive machines and indeed, have found several solutions to the problems I've had with them.
In these efforts, I have also found techniques and developed SOP's that may help someone else who encounters the same or similar issues.
I offer these tips and tricks in the spirit of cooperation and welcome helpful input that may refine or improve my findings.
Ya'll have a happy and safe Thanksgiving.

That's exactly what a forum is for. Writing SOP's, as long as they are safe, are appreciated by all. We're just giving input on the safety aspects of your mod. The Quad is now front heavy and makes it easy to flip over forward easier. A battery in the front can easily get punctured, which will send battery acid on the rider or worst case, explode. If you insist on keeping your current design, put the diamond plating all around your box instead of just on top. This is why, by design, all ATV batteries are located under the seat surrounded by all the plastics.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family as well
