Default What is behind this cover?

There seems to be a small amount of oil leaking from the bottom of this cover and Im wondering whats behind it. On of the screws on the bottom of it stripped the threads inside upon removal so its likely not sealed fully in that spot. I will likely just use some seal all to stop it leaking but would like to know what I'm sealing off. It could also be the gasket is rotted but I really don't want to remove the other screws risking the threads being stripped on those as well.

Bike is a big bear 350

Okay so its the "middle gear". Can this black cover be removed without removing the whole assembly(swingarm, rear diff etc)? I may just need to retap the threads and replace the gasket.

Thanks for all the help folks.....
Screw wasn't stripped, had the two screws mixed up and apparently one is longer. I still applied some seal all to the area that was leaking and that seems to have done the job for the moment.
