Default Are magnetic drain plugs worth it?

Is it worth it to spend $57 on 3 magnetic Gold Plugs, one for my engine oil and two for my diffs? Do people really find metal filings on these things?

Thanks

In talking to the mechanics at the dealership I go to, they do find shavings on the magnetic oil pan plug. Especially, the first couple of oil changes where the engine is still breaking in. I wouldn't pay $57 for them though. I bet you could find a better deal on Amazon or eBay.

I've found very, very small shavings in my vehicle drain plugs for the oil and diffs before. A Grand Cherokee I used to have didn't have a magnet in the oil plug, but it designed to use a larger donut shaped magnet stuck on the inside bottom of the oil pan. The diffs had a magnet on the plug from the factory.

Sometimes it can help you identify a problem before it gets worse not to mention it keeps all that stuff from circulating causing further wear and tear. To me, it's cheap insurance for an ATV, vehicle or whatever, even at $57.

Yes...and it's a shame they don't come from the manufacturer that way!

Fluid changes are easy and cheap, just do one at the start of the season (2 if you have no winter season) and use the $57 for gas.
