K&N vs. UNI air-filters
#1
What's a better filter-
K&N or UNI... what's the difference between them both. I've always though K&N was the best to go with, but I've been seeing alot of other people talk about this filter. Does UNI stand for "universal"? When I saw one for the first time, it didn't look much differenct than a stock honda airfilter. Also- can a UNI be used without an airbox lid at the desert, or do I have to put an outerware on it?
I'm looking to change my wifes 250ex stock airfilter and I'm having trouble finding a K&N that fits it. My local Honda store here has a UNI in stock.

I ran foam for years and recently changed to K&N (300 AND 400ex) and I have to say it makes me nervous. I just got tired of cleaning those foam beasts. I change filters OFTEN!! I ALWAYS run an Outerwears prefilter, and on a long ride I will swap out the prefilter if things get really nasty. I wouldn't run without an airbox lid (I ride desert XC). The airbox would just become a "sandbox". I have my lid drilled (as many 1" holes as I can find room for) and I put in those vents that have little filters in them. It works great and the airbox stays clean enough.
