I have an 1985 Honda 200s atc, the reoil is gone and new ones are mighty expensive, is there anyway I can start it, something like a "clutch start"? I`m still new at this kinda stuff so any help is greatly appreciated.
If the atv is worth saving,it's worth getting the recoil.1985 atc 200s recoil | eBay Get it running and plenty of people still are looking for these old 3 wheelers if you want to sell it.
You may be able to tow start it. I don't like doing this as it puts strain on the transmission. Personally I would remove that star wheel thingy, and use the four bolts to fit a cup shape rope start pulley, adapted from one for a mower engine. Make sure you get one for the correct engine rotation. Best not to ride with this set up though, as a pulley rotating next to your left foot could be dangerous.
Any manually clutched ride can be jump started...find a hill...get some momentum...put it in 2nd and drop the clutch...of course everything else needs to be confirmed:
1) has good spark
2) carb is clean
3) good compression (you'd have to do a leakdown test in your situation)
Ebay is the first place I look for parts, hard to beat.
A lot of the automatic clutch bikes can be push started. It's been a long time since I rode a 200s. UHaul used to rent those, man did they get a beating!
Decide which gear you want, 2nd is usually best to begin with. Once you have the gear selected, don't let off the shifter, hold your foot in the upward position in that gear. Get the bike moving, then when you're at the right speed, let go of the shifter. Engine should start rolling over.
