I have polaris 300 explorer with a 150 watt alternator. I would like to upgrade the stock headlights which are 30/30 watt bulbs but im not sure what I can upgrade to. I know I cant exceed the alt wattage but what else needs the alternator and how much wattage does it take? Can I put a cigeratte light adapter on it?

I have a '97 explorer 500. I think the alternator is rated at 250 watts but I'm not sure. Anyways, I run 550,000 candlepower spotlight off a 12 volt receptacle along with my two headlights and of course the taillight. I've encountered no problems. I don't know if this helps you any, nor do I know how to convert the candlepower rating to wattage, but it might be of some use. I have a replacement bulb that will up the power of the spotlight to 1,000,000 candlepower, but have not tried it. One thing that may be different is that my 12 volt plug-in is wired to the accessory harness in the rear of the quad. This harness is wired directly to the battery. I don't know if this would be dependent upon the alternator output except that I may end up with a dead battery if I am pulling more out of the battery than the alternator is replacing.
