spotsman 500

I have a 2002 and 2010 sportsman 500 they both seem to breakup or sputter under load going uphill etc any ideas

A little more info could help..Have they been sitting up? Has the carbs been cleaned,air filters clean? Could be anything causing this and may not be the same thing causing it on both machines.
