Default 2006 Polaris sportsman 500 ho

Hi I bought a used Polaris sportsman 500 ho, it's started fine and had it out for a few hrs, got home and after a few weeks took it out up the street started fine, I changed air filter today and went to start it and it did nothing when I turned the key. Lights work, winch works... I got it to start with the pullcord, first time doing so, noticed water coming out when pulling it. I let it run for about 10-15 mins and the display started to flash hot so I turned it off and it let out a little back fire. I haven't done anything to it except change air filter. So I was checking wire connections and noticed a wire white with red stripe hanging near battery, not sure why or where it goes but it's extended with a piece of green wire with a y connector. Not sure where to start new to atvs.

First off pull the recoil cover and dry out the stator area and pick up coil located on the outside of the flywheel. The red/white wire is powered up only with ignition on. Could have possibly gone to auxiliary equipment such as a sprayer, etc at one time or another. Tape the red white wire to where it won't ground out against metal. This model also has the notorious ecm module that has had problems. The original black Chinese ecm module should have been replaced in the recall to a silver ecm module.Located under the front panel under the handle bars. It has several functions such as charging(make sure the battery is reading 14 volts or so at an idle) has all the circuit breakers, controls the fan and also the hot light. Hot light could be possibly triggered by a faulty ecm or you may even have trapped air in the cooling system. You need to have the service manual that can answer a lot of questions and help on any repair or service with its trouble shooting guides and checks.2006 Polaris Sportsman 500 Service Manual PDF Download

Ok so I removed the recoil casing and it had water in it, the bendix had some rust on it I cleaned it up along with the flywheel. that's as far as I got last night, but I did locate the ecm module and it's black, assuming this is the old one. Also I checked the rad again and noticed that the fluid level was not at the top like last time after running it for 15-20 mins and the reservoir was back just above min, I disconnected the temp sensor and the fan turned on. So I'm assuming fan works. Plz forgive me I'm new at this whole engine mechanic stuff lol I've been watching and reading a lot on here and on YouTube. When I get home from work I'll be putting the casing back on for as I'm heading up north to my camp today or tmw. I'm hoping she will get me in. Really appreciated your help old Polaris Tech 👍🏻
