Default 1999 Polaris sportsman 500

My 1999 Polaris sportsman 500 I am unable to move the gear selector into reverse. It was stuck in Lo gear. I was able to pop it out and seems fine. The selector will move into Hi gear down to Neutral then stops, will not move into reverse. I rocked it back and forth trying to make it go into gear. There is no give at all just locked.

Worn parts in the shift box along with the linkage ends are the most common problem when you get stuck in gear. If you can get it to neutral, loosen the lock nut on the ball ends at the shift box levers. Remove the 10mm nut holding the link arms to the shift box slides. While the linkage is off see how much play you have back and fort on the lever in neutral. If it's a lot linkage adjustment may or may not help that much.Loosen the ball ends to where the ends fall straight into the slides without any pulling or stress. Tighten the lock nuts then replace the 10mm nuts on the slides. This may help for awhile, but shift box internal parts may need to be replaced. Some parts are beginning to be nla.https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/po...ctor-a99ch50eb
