I give props to the DS, I also need help jetting one

first of all I would like to say that a DS can haul some @#$. I know, cause I was raced one with a banshee that was piped, had a K&N filter and had a boost bottle, and I will say that that quad would roost all over a stocked raptor, and some piped ones too. I don't know about raptors with high comp pistons though, so if you raptor riders have a high comp piston, let me know how you like your setups and who was responsible if you had any other mods done.
back to the race, I lost the first race to the DS by half a quad length at some dunes going up at a long steep hill, with an approach of about 50 yards. But that was only before I realized I had to start the banshee in second gear, we were kind of revving 3rd before the race ended at the crest of the hill. the banshee also had paddles, but the paddles were pretty torn up, anyway we raced like 7 times with me on the modded banshee and some friends on a piped raptor(fmf I think), piped, paddled 400EX, stock 250cr that only raced me once(he probably would have beat me but I took off like half a second before he did). I won all the rest of the races after that.
I remember the DS holding its own ahead of the piped raptor and like one quad length behind the modded banshee, oh yeah, I think I forget to mention the DS was stock.
anyway I know the DS is fast and my cousin has a 2000 DS but it runs like **** cause it is not jetted right. the low end bogs way to much, but when you get it revving hard it holds the gear. so you have to be totally revved out in every gear to keep it in the power band otherwise it bogs down quick.
I need some DS owners that know how to adjust the jetting to give me some help. the elevation is like 4,500 feet in northern arizona and the DS runs stock, for now.
any help would be highly appreciated, and I am sorry about the long story.
thanks,

I ride at sea level, and my DS doesn't fall flat at all in the low rpms...I don't know much about jetting, but I would try going down a size. At higher elevations there is less air, and the stock jet might be to fat for the thin air...? just a guess

0raptorman0, if his quad is stock the correct main jet size at 4,500 feet should be a dj170.You can call dynojet at 18009924993 if you have anymore questions about your jetting.they have been a good sorce 4 me. good luck!

thanks for the advice, but the topend is fine and I thought that if it runs good on the topend then the main jets are dialed in, that is when the throttle is from 3/4 to full, correct me if I am wrong. From 0 to 1/2 it bogs a little but not as much as 1/4 to 3/4 throttle. so I think it is the needle but am not positive so those of you who know, enlighten me and help me get this DS up to par.
thanks again for the advice,

My 2001 has 165 mains stock (don't remember what needle jets, pilots, etc. are but they are stock also -look them up) and I run at 2200'. Jetting was good at -5F degrees when I first got it (by reading the plugs) then it warmed up to 40 degrees and it was running fat, but not bad. Then I modified the pipe and stock jetting is again fine at recent temps of 50 or so (otherwise I probably would have leaned out the mains one size). Thought I would let you know so you can look up the 2001 specs and see how that compares with yours. Typically you would be one size smaller again (than 2001 settings) to compensate for your increased altitude. By the way - the mains would start having an effect as early as 1/4 throttle (but the needle jets have a bigger effect at that point). The mains really start having the most significant effect at over 1/2 throttle setting. If your bog at 1/4 to 3/4 throttle comes primarily if you snap the throttle from that position going to wide open (as opposed to rolling on smoothly) then I would suspect the mains first.

http://www.bombardierds650.com/ has a great review of jetting, and where each component of a carb. has it's effect. You might read that, I believe it would give you alot of information to complement your knowledge. From everything I have heard, you sould correct in your knowledge of jetting.
