Default 2001 Sportsman 500 HO

I recently bought this ATV strictly for hunting. First time out it got stuck in high gear and would not shift. I lowered the idle and it still wouldn’t shift. Ended up getting stuck in reverse. I assume I should start with trying to correct this linkage. However I can’t seem to stop this twisting. I’ve tightened the nuts below and on the rod. Nothing works. And I’m not being lazy here, I’ve read posts all over this forum and watched YouTube videos. I just can’t get it working.
Any and all advice is appreciated. I’m on my cell but I’m going to try to load video and pics.

Hydrolock.. Constant problem on these older models as they wear. Loosen the lock nuts on the ball ends at the shift box. Then remove the 10mm nuts holding the linkage arms to the shift levers and remove out of the way. You may have to use the palm of your hand and pop the shift lever back into neural. When in neutral check the amount of free play forward and reverse. If excessive, the internals of the box may need to be checked out/worn items replaced along with a fluid change. While still in neutral use vice grips to get the belcrank on the gear case back into neutral.Turn the ball ends on the linkage arms until they drop straight into the shift box levers with NO pulling or resistance. Tighten the lock nuts and relplace to two 10 mm nuts. This may help shifting for awhile, plus always stop in neutral first for a second while changing gears. Plus this was in the model range that many had clutch creeping problems on.If this is going on also, this can affect shifting.
