Magnum 500 steering problem
#1
Greetings everyone,
I am having an issue with my 2001 Polaris magnum 500's steering. When the ATV is off you can manually turn the handlebars only left and straight. When running you can turn the bars both left and right. When gas is applied the steering jerks around by it's self, like it's possessed. The vicious random jerking motions aren't just a little jerk. The bars go from straight to all the way right very suddenly. My electronic AWD works intermittently but the right wheel is more reliable. the jerking still occurs when in 2WD. I just got done changing the front shocks and struts, and now it's acting all crazy. What did I do?!?

Sounds like you have problems in the hubs. If worn down/damaged a hub can still lock up in 2 wheel drive. If hubs are dry, seals worn, armature plate magnetized, wrong torque on hub nuts, any of these can cause problems. Several videos on servicing, but the manual goes into a lot better detail on the awd parts.

I'd service both side along with replacing any worn parts. Always replace both sides armature plates. Cheap parts that can cause one side to lock in if magnerized. The manual goes in to good detail on repair and service of the hubs.
